Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; July 26, 2005 - Vancouver International Airport Authority (YVR) hosted opening festivities in the airport’s newly renovated U.S. Departures (Transborder) area for four new Hudson Group stores, bringing to 15 the total number of stores the company operates in the airport. “We’re pleased to celebrate the completion of our Transborder Retail Expansion program at YVR, which offers U.S.-bound travelers the most extensive selection of shops and services of any airport in Canada,” says David Huffer, Vice President, Commercial Development, Vancouver International Airport Authority.
“This development was made possible following the successful negotiations that resulted in the change in value of products that could be sold in this post-security area, and by our strong partnership with Hudson Group, our retail partner of choice following a worldwide tender competition. Once again, Hudson Group has exceeded our expectations with appealing concepts, great product selection and store designs that complement the overall theme of the development,” adds Huffer.
The four new specialty retail stores include: Vancouver Kitchen, a culinary gift and gourmet food shop; Christmas in Vancouver, a year-round shop for locally themed holiday gifts; Roots, a well-recognized apparel brand in North America; and Crabtree & Evelyn, a brand name famous around the world for luxurious personal care products and fragrances for men and women.
“We are delighted to partner with Vancouver International Airport Authority to expand Hudson’s retail presence in this beautiful environment,” says Joseph DiDomizio, Executive Vice President, Hudson Group. “The Transborder area is both vibrant and welcoming. The management and associates at each of our four new stores are prepared to offer YVR’s travelers and employees a compelling shopping experience, along with the highest levels of customer service.”
In addition to the new stores, Hudson Group’s operations in the airport include: Hudson News, National Geographic, Discover Vancouver, $15 Boutique, BC Sports Zone, and Kids Works stores. The company has been an active member of the airport since 2003. Hudson Group operates retail concessions in 53 airports throughout North America, including Calgary and Halifax International Airports. Hudson Group, the retail division of Hudson News Company, a Forbes Top 500 Privately Held U.S. Company, operates more than 450 premier specialty retail shops, newsstands and bookstores in airports and commuter terminals across the North American continent.
