Established in 1931 and renamed Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport to honor the world-changing legacy of late Birmingham civil rights activist Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth BHM has been welcoming travelers to The Magic City and serving as Central Alabama’s gateway to the sky for more than 80 years. The airport was rennovated from 2011-2014 and revealed a new terminal that nearly doubled the airport’s footprint, but with minimal impact on our community and environment.
